One Place Study
Haverfordwest History is a registered One Place Study. A One Place Study is a designated study of a particular city, town, village or area. Most family historians, while researching their family history, do a little research on the place where their ancestors settled. A One Place Study doesn’t focus on any particular family. The focus is on the place and the people who live in that place, regardless of any relationship to the person recording the information.
A One Place Study aims to report on everything that occurs or has occurred in a particular place. Anything that occurs or occurred in a particular area, at a particular time can be recorded on a One Place Study. Below are a few examples:
Geographical
The people living or who have lived in the place
Community activities
Education
Employment
Business
Manufacturing
Farming
Old newspaper articles
Archival records
It is my intention that this One Place Study will become a resource for anyone wishing to research their family history in Haverfordwest, or find out more about the city and surrounding area.
Why Haverfordwest?
Haverfordwest is the birthplace of my 2x great grandparents, John TAYLOR and Martha LLOYD. They married in Haverfordwest in 1839, and their first son James and second son John were born there. In 1840 John, Martha and their two young boys emigrated to Australia.
I know very little of their life in Haverfordwest, which is why I decided that it could be helpful to start a One Place Study. As well as learning about Haverfordwest, I am expecting this study will lead to a better understanding of the lives of my great grandparents before emigrating to Australia
